Sciatica specifies pain that radiates along the track of the sciatic nerve, which brakes from your lower back through your hips and buttocks and down each leg. Sciatica affects only one side of your body. Most sciatic pain lasts 4–6 weeks. Acute pain can feel like a stabbing, shooting, or burning sensation, which may drop into a dull ache. Sciatica becomes chronic if it lasts longer than 6 weeks and does not improve.
